Project Overview
Meet The Project consortium
A multidisciplinary team in solar thermal and hydrogen technology
The HySelect consortium, involving 6 organisations from 5 EU countries (Germany, Greece, Finland, Italy, Austria), has been created with the rationale to further advance the technologies investigated and developed in predecessor projects (especially HYCYCLES, SOL2HY2 and PEGASUS) relevant to sulphur-based thermochemical cycles.
The Road to HySelect
Our Approach
The HySelect project foresees to cover the entire materials and process value chains of both concentrated solar energy-driven SO₃ splitting and SO₂ depolarized electrolysis. Real practical needs of Europe’s Hydrogen-related industry, not only via implementation of innovative ideas and solutions and validation of their merit by on-site, extended proof-of-concept scale operation but, by their fast scale-up and commercialization will be further addressed as well.
Research Performers & Technology Developers
High-level commitment of the four specialized research partners, one university and three research centres (AALTO, DLR, CERTH, ENEA) as research and technology developers that process state-of-the-art knowledge and experimental infrastructure from fundamental up to pre-industrial level, provide a sound scientific knowledge base and combine their national expertise into a global force.
END-USERS
GRILLO is a sulphuric acid, Oleum, SO₃ and SO₂ production chemical industry, end user of the technology to be developed and strongly interested in the technology of sulphur dioxide depolarized electrolyser (SDE) that can be coupled to its current plant and complement in the future their current business activities in the emerging and huge market of renewable Hydrogen.
stakeholders, wide public
FEN Research will perform systems research for the creation of future sustainable business cases as basis for the commercialization and exploitation of the designed solar-driven sulphur-based thermochemical processes for renewable hydrogen production as well as continuous communication and dissemination of results during and beyond the project.
