Solar-driven H2 production concept

HySelect aims to demonstrate hydrogen (H₂) production using concentrated solar technologies through the Hybrid Sulphur (HyS) cycle, which involves high-temperature decomposition of sulphuric acid and low-temperature SO₂-depolarized electrolysis. The project will develop and operate a full-scale H₂ production chain with two key innovations: a sulphuric acid decomposition reactor and a platinum-free SO₂-depolarized electrolyzer. A heat recovery system and non-critical catalysts will enhance efficiency and sustainability, supported by modeling and process simulations. The integrated system will be tested in a solar tower over six months to validate performance and assess the technical and economic feasibility of the technology.
